Aims to improve the lives of the people living in and around the Wof-Washa natural Forest, a beautiful indigenous forest three hours drive north-east of Addis Ababa. As the forest is itself pivotal to the lives of the communities in that area, we want to promote its efficient management so that the people there can benefit from it in a sustainable way.
Also situated close to Addis, two hours drive north. Our approach in this area is to achieve “Conservation Through the Market”, providing sustainable alternative sources of income that will help to make the most of the communities’ resources. As the actual project title is a bit of a mouthful, we at SUNARMA usually refer to it as the “Conservation Through the Market” Project.
Started in early 2010 within the Wuchale Jidda woredas, this programmes aims to deal with the difficulties presented by Climate Change as seasonal rains increasingly often fail leading to crop failures, water shortages and livestock deaths.
Sunarma are working with local people supplying tools, materials and expert knowhow to enable local project members to build hand dug wells, set up micro-irrigation and capped springs for village drinking water. Click to find out more.....
A new project based at the edge of the Wof-Washa Forest. Sunarma is working in partnership with TESFA (a locally based NGO with experience of running CbT projects in Ethiopia). The intention is to enable forest communities to earn an income directly related to their stewardship of the resources around them.

This project was started during mid 2008 to deal with the crop failure and famine affecting much of Ethiopia. Since Sunarma is not an aid agency, but involved with long term development, this was and is, our response in our project areas. Click to find out what we are do
